Free Ayachi Hammami

Intersection Association for Rights and Freedoms strongly condemns the arrest of prominent lawyer and human rights defender Ayachi Hammami, who was taken from his home today, 2 December 2025. His arrest follows the appellate ruling issued on 28 November 2025, sentencing him to five years in prison in connection with what is known in the media as the “Conspiracy Case,” in which he was accused of belonging to a terrorist organization. The case unfolded under circumstances that lacked even the minimum guarantees of a fair trial.

Intersection Association considers this arbitrary measure a dangerous escalation in the ongoing targeting of human rights defenders, advocates of freedoms, and opposition political figures. It constitutes a direct threat to Tunisia’s political and civil liberties. It reflects a systematic pattern of using judicial and security mechanisms to silence independent voices and restrict political and human rights work.

Intersection Association calls for the immediate release of lawyer Ayachi Hammami and all other political detainees held in connection with this case. The Association also demands an end to arbitrary judicial prosecutions and the accompanying security measures, as the targeting of a lawyer and well-known human rights defender committed to dignity and justice serves only to intimidate all those who stand up for human rights.

Intersection Association urges international and regional human rights organizations and relevant United Nations bodies to take urgent action and call for an end to this grave violation of rights and freedoms.
