Mohamed Amine Jendoubi, a 22-year-old young Tunisian, suffered from diabetes. A decision dismissing the charges against him had been issued months earlier, yet he was not released and his detention continued. In January 2025, the victim's mother broadcast a live video documenting her son's suffering during his detention, stating that he remained shackled inside the prison while suffering a severe deterioration in his health, until he fell into a coma. On 17 July 2025, a video spread on social media documenting the family's discovery of their son's death, which had occurred 10 days earlier at Charles Nicolle Hospital, without the authorities informing the family, sparking widespread anger and accusations of a cover-up and failure to disclose the truth.
