On November 4 ,2024, journalist Mohammed Boughaleb, has been moved from his cell in Mornaguia prison, to another, referred to as “El Karraka”, an inhumane space with poor infrastructure that fails to respect prisoners’ rights, reflecting the mistreatment Mohammed Boughaleb has been enduring ever since his imprisonment in March 2023.

This situation has deteriorated his health, according to his brother, the tough prison conditions have led to his skin swelling, he has also been refused regular medical care, despite his chronic illnesses and his need for constant treatment for diabetes.

The ongoing violations Boughaleb is experiencing in prison, especially the refusal of his rights to humane treatment and healthcare, are regarded as a flagrant breach of International Human Rights agreements, particularly Article 12 of the International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights, that guarantees the right to health, as well as Article 36 of the Constitution which states” every prisoner has the right to humane treatment that preserves their dignity.”

Intersection Association for Rights and Freedoms calls for the protection of all rights for Mohammed Boughaleb and other prisoners, including access to proper healthcare and humane treatment that preserve their dignity.

The Association reiterates its demand for the immediate release of Mohammed Boughaleb and other prisoners of opinion, who have been detained for long periods because of their opinions and their work of journalism.
