Intersection Association for Rights and Freedoms condemns the actions of police forces that blocked the event of a visual trial that has been led by organizations of the civil society on April 10, 2025 in the movie-theater “Rio”. The event aimed at shedding light on the violations against political detainees and prisoners of conscience in Tunisia and to defend the right to a fair trial, which takes place just as the second court session is set to be held on April 11, 2025, in the case popularly known in the media as the “Conspiracy Case”.
Despite being held in a private space, the event was disrupted by police forces with no legal order, demonstrating the continued erosion of human rights and freedoms in the Tunisian state.
Intersection Association for Rights and Freedoms views this disruption as a direct attack on the freedom of assembly and association and as a return to prior police state forces, rooted in censorship and oppression.
Intersection Association views the restriction of an event in a private venue as a clear attack on the freedom of association and a sign of a return to prior censorship and a police state, violating basic rights and freedoms. The Association calls for an end to all forms of repression against human rights organizations and insists they must be allowed to work freely and without interference. It also urges a stop to policies that silence voices and restrict freedoms.
